Nikon Wide Angle 120mm f/8 Nikkor-SW Lens

Nikon Wide Angle 120mm f/8 Nikkor-SW Lens

Features

The SW-Series lenses feature wide covering power and a wide image circle. Covering power can be extended to 105°/106° by stopping the lens down. SW series lenses deliver high contrast and resolution, reduced flare and excellent color rendition, due to Nikon Integrated Coating and strict control of aberrations. SW series lenses with a maximum aperture of f/8 are compact and well compensated for distortion.

Heliopan 77mm Center ND 3x Glass Filter - 105mm Front Thread

Many wide angle lenses exhibit fall-off (darkening) at the edges. This can be improved with a center filter which has a progression from dark grey in the center to clear at the edges. The Heliopan wide angle center filters are available in two densities: ND-0.45 (filter factor 3x, or +1.5 stops) and ND-0.9 (filter factor 8x, +3 stops).

Most large format lens manufacturers make center filters for their wide angle lenses. Heliopan offers an economical alternative for lenses requiring a 3x filter. The 8x version is unique and the most powerful on the market.

Large Format Lenses & Center Filters

Schneider Wide Angle 58mm f/5.6 Sup-Angulon XL Lens with Copal #0 Shutter
Filter Size: 67mm EW

Schneider 67mm Center Filter (#3b) for 80mm f/4.5 and 110mm f/5.6 Super Symmar XL Lenses and 58mm f/5.6 XL and 90mm f/8 Super-Angulon Lenses

When working with ultra-wide-angle lenses, the fall off of illumination towards the corners is sometimes disturbing. For this reason, concentrically graduated Center Filters have been designed to compensate for this vignetting. These filters have a transparency which increases gradually from the center to the edges of the filter where it reaches full transparency. The transmission is independent from the wavelength of the visible spectrum. In order to avoid over exposure and with consideration of the exposure latitude of the film emulsions, we have not fully compensated for the vignetting of the lens.

It must be remembered that, when working with ultra-wide-angle lenses, one should avoid high contrast films, under-exposure, and non-uniform field illumination as much as possible. With the consideration of these three factors, the use of Center Filters in combination with the Schneider Super-Angulon (and Super-Symmar XL) lenses can open new areas of wide-angle photography in black-and-white and color.

For maximum results and definition when using the this Schneider center filter, it is necessary to increase the exposure 1.5 stops. It is also to be noted that the lens must be stopped down at least two full stops below maximum aperture, since only then can the maximum compensating effect of the Center Filter be achieved. This filter has a front accessory thread of 86mm and uses a 90mm push-on lens cap (SCLC90). A front cap is included.

Schneider Wide Angle 72mm f/5.6 Super-Angulon XL Lens with Copal #0 Shutter

This filter has a front accessory thread of 110mm and uses a 115mm push-on lens cap (SCLC115). A front cap is included.
